STEVIE WILKINSON

Stevie Wilkinson - Detail of building in isolation from Lakeside Reflections

PAINTER & ILLUSTRATOR

Stevie is fascinated by the ever changing landscape and the effect the season, weather, light or time of day has upon its character. Since moving to Devon she has drawn inspiration from the stunning landscape and dramatic coastal views that surround us and has discovered how amazing it is that the same view can change in colour, mood and drama, sometimes in a matter of minutes. Transferring these images onto paper or canvas is what inspires her.

Over the years she has challenged herself by constantly developing different techniques and exploring a variety of mediums, whether pencil, pen or paint. One thing however has never changed, the thrill of bringing to life an image from a white sheet of paper or canvas, the flow of the pencil, the depth of mark or the texture and tactile quality of paint. Whilst the most rewarding aspect of creating images is the emotion they evoke in others.

Stevie was born into a house of creativity. Her father was a gifted photographer and film maker, creating animated films staged on the family's dining room table. Her mother was a children's book illustrator, who worked for Galt Toy's featured at the Design Centre. Later she created beautiful embroidered quilts for Liberty's and other Bond Street shops. Stevie's talented mother even designed the lights for Regent Street and Oxford Street in the 1950's.

Stevie followed in her mothers footsteps by studying illustration. She gained a BA Hons at Exeter's College of Art & Design and first started work in the commercial field creating record sleeves for World Records & EMI and illustrating books; but her true passion is painting and immersing herself in capturing her response to the natural environment.
