SALLY QUICK

Sally's quilts are all about people, love, creativity and beauty. The time, thought and creative skills needed to create these works of art give her immense pleasure and she hopes they give you the same too. There is a natural approach to her craft and she celebrates the moment when one of her creations stops being hers and becomes part of someone else's home and history. 

She has always been inspired by the early pioneering women of North America and those of Wales and Northern England who made quilts, not only to show off their skills, but to keep their families warm and as a medium for telling stories. Her passion for patchwork and quilting have grown since her first encounter with the craft as a teenager in the 1970's. 

Her skills have now developed beyond recognition, with the knowledge and techniques to create outstanding and original pieces. Her quilts are both beautiful to look at and to touch and give a strong visual focus to any interior – with the added feeling that makes any home feel warm, cosy and loved.

Sally considers herself a purist of the craft – embracing all the processes involved from sketching designs, choosing fabrics, considering texture and colour to her use of hand made templates and her hand cutting and sewing skills. The tops of the quilts are either hand or machined pieced but all the quilting is carried out by hand - stitch by stitch. This methodology takes thought and time but creates very individual, unique and bespoke works of art. 

She always says her quilts are made 'with love' and this sentiment is hand embroidered onto the labels she creates. Inspiration is gathered from the people they are intended for and the occasion for which they are gifted. She is driven during the quilting process by the idea that the finished quilt will be loved and cherished by its new owner - as much as it was by her making it. It is hoped each will become a treasured heirloom to be passed down the generations.
